Editorial Guidelines

Editorial Guidelines

Trust is everything. When you read a paint-color recommendation or follow one of our DIY guides, you are trusting us with your home, your weekend, and your budget. These Editorial Guidelines explain how we earn that trust — how our content is researched, tested, and kept honest. Questions: contact@thevistadecor.com.

Our Publishing Promise

Every article on The Vista Decor is researched, reviewed for accuracy, and carefully edited before it goes live. We would rather publish less often than publish something we do not stand behind.

Who Creates Our Content

Content is created and edited by Maya Bennett, founder and editor of The Vista Decor — a home stylist, thrift-store hunter, and DIY enthusiast. Every article carries a human byline, and the buck for accuracy stops with the editor.

How We Choose What to Publish

We publish what we know: room-by-room styling guides, budget-friendly DIY projects, paint and color advice, small-space solutions, and seasonal decorating ideas. We cover trends we have genuinely evaluated — not every trend deserves your attention, and we say so when one does not.

Research Methods

Our articles draw on: hands-on experience styling real rooms and completing real DIY projects; manufacturer specifications and care instructions for paints, tools, and materials; reputable design publications, books, and expert interviews; and reader questions and feedback, which often spark new guides. We prefer primary sources — the paint brand’s own technical sheet over a third-party summary, the designer’s own portfolio over a repost.

Hands-On Testing

Wherever practical, we test what we recommend. DIY projects are completed before they are written up. Our calculators (paint, rug, wallpaper) are checked against standard industry formulas. If we have not personally tried something, we say so and explain the basis for our recommendation.

Fact-Checking Before Publication

Before an article goes live, we verify product names, prices (noting the date checked), measurements, material claims, and safety warnings. A second read-through checks for clarity, tone, and consistency with our style.

How We Use AI Tools

We may use AI tools for background research and drafting assistance, but every article is written, verified, and approved by a human editor. AI never publishes to this site unsupervised, and factual claims are always checked against reliable sources before publication.

Affiliate Links and Sponsored Content

Our independence is non-negotiable: affiliate links are used in some articles. They never influence what we recommend — we recommend first, link second. If an article is sponsored or contains gifted products, it will be clearly labeled at the top of the article. Advertisers and affiliate partners do not review or approve our content before publication.

Advertising and Editorial Independence

Display advertising keeps our content free, but our editorial judgment is never for sale. Ad placements do not affect which products we feature or how we rate them.

Keeping Content Fresh

Home decor evolves, and so do our articles. We review evergreen guides on a regular cycle (typically every 6 to 12 months) to update prices, product availability, links, and advice. When an article is substantially updated, we note it.

Corrections Policy

If we get something wrong, we fix it and we own it. Readers can report errors via contact@thevistadecor.com. We aim to correct factual errors within 7 days. Significant corrections are noted at the bottom of the article with the date of the change.

Images and Attribution

We use original graphics, licensed stock photography, and brand/press images as described in our DMCA / Copyright Policy. We credit creators where licenses or standards require it.

Reader Feedback

Our readers make this site better. Comments, emails, and corrections are read by a human and genuinely influence what we publish next. Write to us anytime at contact@thevistadecor.com.
